There were several reasons I wanted to visit Eureka, CA, the first of which is the great name! Skipping the second reason, I'll move on to the third reason: the historical, Victorian style downtown lined with thrift and antique shops. Maybe it was because I started off so early in the morning but nothing was open, so I just looked through the window and walked down the streets. When it started to rain, I decided it was time to move on down the road to the fourth reason I decided to stop in Eureka...
The Redwood Forest. I started driving down the Redwood highway the night before when it was pitch black. In the headlights, I could see the massive trunks and almost cried because I thought I had completely missed it. I was so happy that my drive to Sacramento kept me on this scenic highway so I could experience these amazing works of nature. Originally, I had to be in Sacramento by 3:00pm, so I was on a tight schedule. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I had a couple extra hours to wander around and stop to see these trees rather than taking a quick picture as I drove by.

I stopped at Grandfather Tree, which as you can see by the sign is 1800 years old. I had to crane my neck and almost bend backwards to see all the way to the top. It was an amazing sight and I'm so glad I got to stop.

Continuing down the 101, I started to get hungry. I debated for a while what I wanted to eat and if I even wanted to stop or just have some granola bars that were in my car. Then, I saw this old shake shack and decided to see if it was any good. I order a bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, and a chocolate malt milkshake. I burger was much bigger than I expected and got full quickly, but the onion rings where awesome and the shake was so worth it.
Finally making it down to Sacramento, I saw this little girl on the side of the road with a giant suitcase and a look of wanderlust. So, I took on a passenger for a part of my trip. Thank you, Eliza Collins for joining me! We will be traveling down through California together for the next couple of weeks an I am so excited to share this experience with my friend! And now, I wont have to talk to my car so much.
