Come With Me And You'll Be In a World of Pure Imagination....

Seattle finally got the memo Tuesday morning that it should not be 100+ degrees ever. Mother Nature took it down a notch and I set out for the day in comfortable 80 degree weather. Not a cloud in the sky, I set off to my first destination, the Space Needle. I'm terrible at navigation and I didn't know if I was even headed in the right direction. That is, until I say the Space Needle poking out above some buildings!

Arriving in Seattle Center, I bought my tickets and headed up to the top! Like I said in my last post, the beers from the previous night left me a little light headed. Walking around the sky deck, I could have sworn it was slanted just a bit, but it could have been just me. From the top, you can see the whole city. I saw downtown, historic Lower Queen Anne, the mountain range off in the distance, but more important, I saw where Tom Hanks' houseboat from Sleepless in Seattle was located. Very important.

Right next door to the Space Needle is the Chihuly Garden and Glass Exhibition. If there's one kind of art I absolutely admire, it's blown glass. Walking through the exhibit was like falling into a Dr. Suess/ Willy Wonka/ Disney's Fantasia wonderland. It was beautiful.

After leaving the most colorful dimension I've ever visited, I headed to the waterfront to partake in more touristy excitements.

Wait a second... I saw this sculpture
in Chicago's Millenium Park!
Where else will I see it?

Stopping for a quick bite, I found a fish shack on the pier. I got a combo of fish and chips, tempura shrimp, and clam strips. I washed it all down with a refreshing Arnold Palmer and set off next to the Seattle Aquarium!

Highlights of this aquarium visit include getting to touch a starfish, a sea urchin, and a couple anemones. Also, I saw sea otters wrestling. What's cuter than that?

Last stop for the day was Pike Place Market. I don't know what I was expecting, but it just seemed like any other Farmer's Market, which is a little disappointing. There were a bunch of different stalls: fish vendors, fruits, vegetables, flowers, crafts, you name it, it was probably there. I overheard someone pointing out the original Starbucks, which was cool. I grabbed a pound of cherries and an ice cold cider and headed back to my home-stay.

Looking for something light for dinner, I found a sushi bar and figured I should have some fresh sushi on the West Coast. I usually don't order California Rolls, but I'm so glad I got it. It was definitely the best one I've ever had. And it was a smiley face! I also got a Pretty Salmon Roll, which was also very good, but by the time I got halfway though, I was full. I packed the rest to take with me and headed in for the night.

Inspired by the Chihuly exhibit, I decided to watch Disney's Fantasia, which is easily in my top five movies of all time. I finished off my night with some delicious Rainier cherries and classical music!

Come back again soon to hear about my second day in Seattle!
