Second course was the duck grilled cheese- duck confit, fontina, spinach, and black pepper- apple chutney served on toasted sourdough.
Finally, I finished off with the Rosa cake, made with their Rosa Hibiscus Ale. Hibiscus pound cake, Rosa-poached nectarines, and butter pecan ice cream topped with candied hibiscus, paired with Eugene Porter.
After requesting a wheelbarrow to help roll me out of the restaurant, I hunted down a restaurant my father and I had seen in a documentary around the holidays. I couldn't find any parking on the main road while looking for this place, so I turned down a side road and stumbled upon the most beautiful street of houses. Honestly, I'm pretty sure this is where Oprah and Obama live. Just absolutely beautiful homes that I creepily took pictures of.
Finally, I found the restaurant. This foreboding facade is home to Alinea. The gastronomic experience is the only restaurant in Chicago and one of twelve restaurants in America to have three Michelin Stars. Unfortunately, I got there just before it opened and couldn't see inside. However, when I win the lottery, I will have a house on that street above and dine in that restaurant below.
My last stop in Chicago was the Willis Tower Sky deck. Formally known as the Sears Tower, it once held the the record for being the tallest building in the world. It now has to settle for being the tallest building in the United States. I went at an odd time and was under the impression that it would take no time at all to get to the top. It took an hour to get a ticket and another 45 minutes to get to the top. While my nose would probably differ after being assaulted with so much body odor, I think it was well worth it. You just can't beat views like that.
The last few pictures are in a glass box jutting out of the side of the building 103 stories off the ground. Intimidating as it was, it's a experience I can check off my bucket list. Chicago was amazing and I wouldn't give anything up for this experience. One week into this trip and I can't say that I'm not homesick. I have all the love and support from my family and friends I could ask for and I couldn't thank you enough. Thank you to all who read these blogs. More to come at my next stop!
